Minor 7th & Half Diminished Shell Chords

In this blog we will learn how to play the minor 7th & half diminished shell chords with the root on the 6th, 5th, 4th and the 3rd strings in order.

What Are Minor 7th & Half Diminished Shell Chords?

Before we get into it, let's quickly recap on what these shell chords are to begin with.

Simply put, we build a minor 7th chord first by stacking the root, minor 3rd, perfect 5th, and the minor 7th notes of a scale.

For half diminished chords, we stack the root, minor 3rd, diminished 5th, and the minor 7th notes of a scale.

Next, we omit the perfect 5th or the diminished 5th, leaving us with the root, minor 3rd, and the minor 7th notes. This creates our shell chord.

Now that we have that out of the way, let's learn how to play them.

As you can see, that when we remove the 5th from each of these chord types, we end up with the same chord.

Hence, I clubbed them together in this post. Other chord types will also be shared in future posts.
