Continuing with the series of blogs related to the Jazz Melodic Minor, this post will focus on Lydian Dominant.
As the name may suggest, this scale is simply a lydian scale with a b7. This scale also happens to be the 4th mode of the melodic minor scale.
What Is Lydian Dominant?
As mentioned earlier, the lydian dominant scale is simply a lydian scale but with a b7, which also happens to be the 4th mode of the melodic minor scale.
We can also call this scale lydian b7.
Intervallic Analysis
Let's visualise the difference between the major scale, lydian scale, and the lydian b7 scale, taking C as our root:
