Continuing with the series of blogs related to the Jazz Melodic Minor, this post will focus on Lydian Augmented.
As the name may suggest, this scale is simply a lydian scale with an added #5. This scale also happens to be the 3rd mode of the melodic minor scale.
What Is Lydian Augmented?
As mentioned earlier, the lydian augmented scale is simply a lydian scale but with an added #5, which also happens to be the 3rd mode of the melodic minor scale.
We can also call this scale lydian #5.
Intervallic Analysis
Let's visualise the difference between the major scale, lydian scale, and the lydian #5 taking C as our root:
